Apollo 13 Lunar Module model

The story of the Apollo 13 mission has been well-told, and the amazing feats of courage and skill demonstrated by everyone involved are the stuff of legends. Along with the inspiring story told in the feature film, the accurate and stunning models and scenery helped make the movie one of the best ever. The Orange County Space Society has been fortunate enough to rescue one of those pieces, a filming model of the Lunar Module used in the picture. This piece is extremely accurate and well done. However, as is sadly often the case, once filming of a movie is complete, the props are disposed up. We got our hands on this piece, and now we are trying our best to restore it and give it a new home. However, due to a lack of funds (and time) this famous model is sitting in the garage of one of our members, waiting for some love.

We are looking to raise funds dedicated to putting this model back together. We have skilled members and friends of OCSS who will likely be able to perform the actual work. However, we need to purchase supplies such as paint, plastics, metal, foil, and other odds and ends to rebuild this model. The legs of the model need to be rebuilt and replaced, the foil covering needs to be redone, the antennae on top need repair and replacing, paint needs to be applied, and I'm sure there are some arach-nauts who are hoping to hop a ride to the Moon.

If you are interested in helping out, please click on the "Make a Donation" button and specify on the PayPal page that this is for "Apollo." And, if you have any model building skills or would like to donate materials or time, please let us know at info@ocspace.org and in the subject line type "Apollo Model." That way, we can find it easily and route it to the right people.

Thank you for your consideration. Please take a look at the photos below to see just how much help this beloved model needs.
